Writing a Simple HTML Page

This tutorial will get you to run a plain HTML web page on Cloud9. Lets start by Creating a New Workspace. Now, create a simple index.html file by going to File > New File…

This opens a new tab within Cloud9, lets give it a name by saving it. Click on the newly created tab first to select it, then click File > Save As…

This brings up a new dialog, just type in index.html or any other name you want to give your first html file and press Save.

Once the file has a name, you can start typing your html in it. To get you started, here’s a basic HTML snippet:

<!doctype html>
<html lang="en">
    <meta charset="UTF-8">
    <title>Test Document</title>
    <h1>This is a test website</h1>
    <p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit. Maxime, eius, recusandae doloremque similique quod in at dolore! Inventore, similique, eius, quia labore rem consectetur dolorem iure accusantium ratione ut reiciendis.</p>
    <hr />
    <p><small>Thanks for visiting</small></p>

Lets save this new content by pressing Cmd-S (or Ctrl-S if you’re on Windows) and test it.

To test, click on the Run button in the menu bar with the green play button. That starts up the server and opens a preview pane.

If the panel opens up and you see an error message, just refresh the preview panel by clicking on the reload icon near the top left of the panel, your new website should show up!
