Unable to access your workspace /mnt/shared/sbin/node ssh process died exit code 255 Permission denied (publickey)

#1

Unable to access your workspace

/mnt/shared/sbin/node
ssh process died with exit code 255
Permission denied (publickey).

This usually resolves itself after a short amount of time (as short as 2 minutes but sometimes longer) but because it is self resolving, it is quite hard to track down.

Leave details if this is happening to you so we can be immediately notified then investigate and eliminate this bug.

Possible Causes

  1. When your ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file is cleared. Please do not modify this file.
  2. When changing permissions (chmod) on the ~/.ssh directory.
  3. Using or installing a shell other than bash. If you’d like to try installing a different shell, do so in a brand new workspace that can be deleted.
  4. Renaming your ubuntu user to something else.

Note: I merged all previous occurrences of this issue.

Hello there,
How can I solve the following problem?
Thank you.

Unable to access your workspace

/mnt/shared/sbin/node
ssh process died with exit code 255
Permission denied (publickey).

#3

Hi,

The issue should be resolved now, please let me know if it isn’t.

Regards,
Mutahhir

I have a similar problem, but the last line in the message isn’t about “Permission denied”, it’s:

/mnt/shared/sbin/node
ssh process died with exit code 255
ssh: connect to host docker-gce-eu-273-prod port 32985: Connection timed out

Also, before that happened, my files seemed to be corrupted: parts of lines of code lying somewhere where they don’t belong, some bugs reappearing which were fixed five days ago, some lines missing and so on. But that’s probably because my connection died yesterday and I didn’t save the file.

EDIT:
Well, the timeout error is gone after reload from hybernation. But the file corruption continues! The whole sections of code are copied or deleted all over the place right in front of my eyes! I mean, a line that I have just written is already duplicated somewhere after 10 minutes!

#5

Hi,

Can you tell me if you’re collaborating on the workspace and if so, any of the collaborators using Auto Save?

Regards,

#11

When I open my workspace seo-rank-tw, it shows “Unable to access your workspace”.

Unable to access your workspace

Hey @Louis_Lin :slightly_smiling:,

This happens to people sometimes but it’s usually self-healing. If you still have the issue tomorrow @mention one of the support from the support page. Reference of a self-healing instance:

#14

Looks like in your case, there were a couple things needed to fix the issue.

  1. Your ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file was cleared so we fixed that up to normal.
  2. You installed the fish terminal, which doesn’t work. We changed your shell back to bash.

Things for you should be good but please post here if this happens again.

Getting this error when trying to access my workspace.

"Workspace Error
Unable to access your workspace

/mnt/shared/sbin/node
ssh process died with exit code 255
ssh: connect to host docker-gce-eu-269-prod port 51428: Connection timed out"

Can’t find a solution that matches my problem.

Need to get work done!!

@LouisFryer investigating *******er2 now

#17

I can not open my workspace:

Workspace Error
Unable to access your workspace

/mnt/shared/sbin/node
ssh process died with exit code 255
Permission denied (publickey).

Before this happens seems I did a chmod of .ssh directory.
Any ideas?

#18

You workspace should be back in business!

#19

Thanks! Working now.

Was this caused by directory permission?

#20

Hi Alen,

indeed this was caused by the permission change  Those can be dangerous operations
