Setting Up Cassandra

For now, you should be able to get setup using the official Cassandra documentation.

Please suggest edits to this guide if there are any changes that need to be made to get Cassandra working on Cloud9.

Because the ulimit command doesn’t work in Cloud9, you’ll need to edit /etc/init.d/cassandra and comment out the line that contains:

ulimit -l unlimited

Once this is done, you can start up cassandra and carry on with business as usual! :sunglasses:

Thanks! It worked for me :wink: Just wanted to mentioned that I have used the instructions at to install Cassandra (3.10).

It worked to start cassandra
sudo service cassandra start But, when running sudo nodetool status
I get the following error:
nodetool: Failed to connect to ‘’ - ConnectException: ‘Connection refused (Connection refused)’.

Following I have added

JVM_OPTS="$JVM_OPTS -Djava.rmi.server.hostname="

to the file /etc/cassandra/, but it did not fixed the issue :-/
