Running New Version Of MySQL 5.5

#1

I installed MySQL 5.5, and I assume it was a clean install. When I run mysqld, I get errors.

I read online, and it says that Errcode: 13 is bad permissions. I tried changing the permissions and I went farther into the startup.

I have tried to set it up with mysql-ctl start, but when I go to check the status, it says mysql stopped.

I’m not having much luck using google. Can anyone help?

#2

I used mysql with sudo, and its working.

sudo mysql

#3
rswetre:~/workspace $ mysql-ctl start
rswetre:~/workspace $ mysql-ctl status
MySQL is stopped

Now I have problems when I run mysql-ctl controls. I give it a command to start, however, but it does not.

mysql-cti is just a wrapper around some commong MySQL commands. You can run the commands directly if you’d like; this is the script’s source: https://gist.github.com/fjakobs/5502604

I’m having trouble getting mysql to work. There were apt-get problems, so I am reinstalling everything mysql related. When I go to install again, here is what happends:

rswetre:~/workspace $ sudo apt-get install mysql-server-5.5
