Rails server stops loading after first successful run

rails

Duplicate of post at Unable to access preview site for testing my rails for ruby website, but seemingly important enough to warrant its own thread:

I’m having the exact same issue …and on three separate workspaces. It worked once, now it’s not working at all …even after trying the steps at https://docs.c9.io/docs/running-a-rails-app.

Are others having this issue?

And is there a workaround of some kind?
I’d really like to continue using c9…

Hi,

Thank you for the post. When this happens, can you check if your server is still responding?

You can do that by going to the Cloud9 terminal and typing in:

$ curl http://localhost:8080/

Does that time out too or not?

Thanks for reply. Seemingly also times out …showing:
“curl: (7) Failed to connect to localhost port 8080: Connection refused”
?

Hi,

Ok, so there were two possibilities: One was that our proxy was some how timing out and had a bug, and the other was that your server code had a problem. The above test is useful to pin point the issue. If you’re having trouble curling within your workspace like the above test shows, that would mean that the server code is at fault and the Cloud9 proxy just keeps waiting for a reply and doesn’t get it. I don’t know much about your application to comment on what the issue could be, but maybe you could try StackOverflow and other Rails based communities if they’ve encountered something like this?
