Pg_dump as part of Cloud9's postgres

#1

Hi, I have a question about pg_dump and if it come as part of the postgres that Cloud9 has by default? And if so, do I need to do something to access it?

I can’t find it on my system when I follow online guides to find it? e.g.

aideen:~/workspace/locally_produced (master) $ pg_dump -version
bash: pg_dump: command not found

Thanks a million,

Aideen

Hello Aideen,

Indeed, I would expect pg_dump to be installed by default on Cloud9 workspaces. On one of mine I see it installed under /usr/bin/pg_dump, but this is actually a symlink that ultimately points to the true destination of /usr/lib/postgresql/9.3/bin/pg_dump. If you can execute it directly by its full path, it could be that your $PATH environment variable isn’t set properly, or perhaps that the /usr/bin/pg_dump symlink is missing, or some similar problem.

If the binary is missing altogether, perhaps the package isn’t installed. Try installing with sudo apt-get install postgresql-client-common.
