No matter what I do I can’t run my index.html file. If I copy the link and paste it in my browser I get the same error.
If you’re trying to view this through the external preview URL, you’ll need to serve up the file manually. We don’t have an automatically-running server. I’d recommend trying either of the following:
- Since this is a static HTML page, it doesn’t need to be served dynamically. You can just preview the page by right-clicking the file and clicking “Preview”; this will open the file in the IDE as a static HTML file.
- You can also right-click the file and hit Run, which should trigger the Apache httpd runner (the default for HTML files). This will serve it publicly through the preview URL as long as the server is running; this will also give you a preview URL for the page specifically. You can also just open your base preview URL and this will open an Apache file explorer where you can navigate to the file you want to view; this uses your
~/workspacefolder as its root.
@bryceito pretty much covered how to view files, but I notice that you tried using the Apache runner, and it errored, saying something about the file not existing. In this case, you should be able to view the page after starting the Apache server using the URL https://bloc-module-2-johnqpublic.c9users.io/bloc/johnq-public.github.io/index.html.
I did try the apache runner and it errored. I have since been able to
preview the website I built. It bothers me a little that I have no idea why
it just started working. I still havent been able to run it with the apache
runner even with the link above. I will keep trying and let you know if
I appreciate you taking a second look at my screen shot!
