How to save a file anywhere on the linux filesystem?

I’m using Cloud9 that’s pre-installed on the beaglebone black, but it doesn’t seem to allow saving files to my home directory, instead it wants to place it in a subdirectory of cloud9.

This is partly a problem, because I don’t know where that is… /opt/cloud9? /var/lib/cloud9
"dpkg -l cloud9" says there’s no cloud9 package installed. How did the distro makers install it… using git? Does git bypass the package installer info?

In case it helps, I’m connected to the BBB via ethernet, and have SSH’d as root, so it shouldn’t be a permissions thing, right?
