Hosting an IRCd

I have this problem where I can connect to the ircd fine from the terminal (connecting to localhost), and I am using port 8080, but for some reason I am getting an html response when I connect from my computer using hexchat:

`* Looking up testing-belugawhale.c9users.io

  • Connecting to testing-belugawhale.c9users.io (104.197.33.159:8080)
  • Connected. Now logging in.
  • HTTP/1.0 400 Bad request
  • Cache-Control: no-cache
  • Connection: close
  • Content-Type: text/html
  • 400 Bad request

Shotty not.

I can’t help here myself besides guesses in the dark but our good friends @bradydowling & @mutahhir will have some perspective on this at least.

Have you tried another port? 8081 and 8082?

All public ports are tunneled through an HTTP proxy before reaching your workspace. Because of that, you can only run HTTP or WebSocket servers.

I also feel I should mention that Cloud9 is not meant for hosting. It’s great as a development system, but we don’t recommend to run your live site on it. Workspaces may be paused or restarted from time to time, even for premium users. This will stop your server process and all connections will be disconnected.
