Directory structure & writing my own gems?

rails

#1

Hi guys,

I am pretty new & using ruby on rails. I keep reading guides and tips saying that I should be putting my DSL & most of my work in to gems.

From past projects on here & briefly reading through the directory structure along with how I am supposed to make gems - it doesn’t seem like that would be possible on cloud9 … unless I design the gem, run the files & upload to a repository, then download the gem via the gem file …

Is that what everyone is doing or is there perhaps a better way?

That is pretty much the procedure, except that you should probably upload your gem to RubyGems so that you and others can easily install it with gem install <your_gem>

I was thinking about placing it just so that I could test it privately first, but it’s an old mindset I should get ride of
