Delete Salesforce Apex triggers or classes and have it deploy

I delete an Apex trigger in Cloud9 but then the deployment fails. Does anyone know how to get that deletion to make it over to Salesforce?

Another support question suggested I should try s9 commit && s9 fetch && s9 merge from the terminal window, which I took to be the tab in c9 labeled bash. Here’s the output:
