Can't npm start existing create-react-app

reactjs
workspace

I’m using a chromebook and have cloned an existing Bitbucket project which I created using create-react-app. I’ve updated Node and NPM to the latest versions, but when I run ‘npm start’ - I get the following error logging:

> project@0.1.0 start /home/ubuntu/workspace
> react-scripts start

module.js:471
    throw err;

Any idea what the problem here is?
